The Californian, by way of New York, is as equally charming as she is talented and a must-see live when you get the chance. Her brand new (yet to be named) EP is in the works and available for pre-order via PledgeMusic and we were fortunate enough to get to chat with her a little bit about it, as well as other things. And now we present to you, Marié Digby.
Brandon: The Hapa Tour with Meiko just wrapped up a couple of months ago. I was fortunate enough to be at the Seattle stop and loved it. What was the tour like for you?
Marié Digby: It was too short! I had an amazing time on the road with Meiko. It’s been a long while since I’ve done any kind of touring so it felt really refreshing to get back into a groove of performing live. Playing live for an audience is so therapeutic and rewarding. I’m really glad I had the chance to do that earlier this year and to share that experience with other incredible talents. I know all of Meiko’s songs by heart now!
B: Which stop did you enjoy the most? (Hint: There is only one right answer here and it rains a lot there.)
M: Seattle. Duh!
B: You’re currently working on a brand new EP. Your unique takes on other songs have been a big part of your popularity, what can fans expect from this EP? Will it be all original music?
M: I never anticipated that it was going to be my interpretation of another’s song that would land me on the musical map! But I’m grateful for it and I do enjoy the art of it. This new EP however, will be all original material! Some of the songs are brand new tunes that I was testing out on the road. It was invaluable to get immediate feedback from a live audience as these songs were being written.
B: What have you been listening to that has caught your ear in 2016?
B: I couldn’t help, but notice the term “triple salchow” shows up in your Facebook bio. Coming from someone who grew up on a farm with four TV channels (three Canadian) and basically only ever had hockey or figure skating on. Is there a reason for the figure skating reference? (laughs)
M: I’ve ice skated about 3 times in my entire lifetime. I am clearly, desperately, in need of a new bio. (laughs)
B: I mentioned your covers earlier and I’m sure you get this question a lot, but which cover song do you love playing the most live?
M: My favorite cover to perform live is usually what I’ve learned the most recently! Right now it would be “When You Say Nothing At All”.
B: Obviously you are busy with recording the EP this year, but what else do you have planned for 2016? Are you going to head back out on tour?
M: I will absolutely be back on the road as soon as this EP is finished. I look forward to that later this fall/winter!
