So far in 2017, we at Lemonade Magazine have been so fortunate to chat with artists from around the world. And most recently, we had a sit down with Danish singer/songwriter KING! The dancer turned singer has been performing in the spotlight from an early age and it has only increased her confidence over the years. Well, the up and coming multi-talented artists took a few minutes to chat with us about her new single, “Only U” and what else is on the horizon! Without further adieu, we are proud to introduce you to KING!
KING: Hi Lemonade! Thanks to you too. My name is KING – my nickname has always been KING so that’s why I call myself that. I’m a Danish pop artist and I have just released my fourth single, “Only U”!
LM: You started life as a dancer, what made you decide that music was a better career path?
KING: I’ve been dancing since I was a little girl but I have always known that music was my real calling. So I started making music a few years ago and now I love to combine dancing with my music.
LM: Your single, “Only U”, is a brilliant, dark dance track and you’ve said it was the hardest track you ever recorded. Could you walk us through the process that made it so difficult?
KING: “Only U” took one and a half year to make. And that was really hard because it was such a long process and when we finally pinned down to the structure and lyrics of the song we still had to do everything over and over again to make it perfect. Every melody, every tone, every harmony and every ad lib had to be done a million times to be perfect. We knew that the song had a lot of potential so that’s why we felt the need to work so hard on it – because we didn’t want a good song to go to waste. And all the hard work was worth it and we are so happy with the final result.
LM: When you shot the video for “Only U” you were in Berlin recording more music. What challenges did you encounter when shooting the video?
KING: Doing the “Only U” video was very cold! Haha! I was very exited to work with [Steve] Glashier (the video director). He is so talented and so awesome to work with. During the shoot I had no doubt about the fact that the product was going to be really good. I felt very secure working with Glashier as we understand each other and share the same vision. I added a few things in the storyline, the rabbit among other things, but everything else is Steve’s. And he chose the rabbit so that is why there’s a rabbit in the video. Maybe a baby next time!
LM: We are nearing the end of 2017. What are you plans for the rest of the year and heading into 2018?
KING: I put a lot of pressure on myself. I always want to do better: I always want to push the limits. Not just my own limits – also the limits in music. I feel like it’s hard to be special and different because people tend to like what’s safe. So my agenda is to do something different – contribute with
something else and show the world who I am. So there will be coming a lot of new music and a lot of new visuals from me the next year.
LM: Well, that is exciting and we can’t wait to hear and see it all! Also, are there any plans to tour the US? Because we’d love to catch the show!
KING: YES! Hopefully I will play a show in the US very soon. I’m often in LA to record music so would be cool to play a show there. I’ll be looking forward to it and you’ll be getting an invite!
LM: That is so awesome! Thanks again, King! We really appreciate it!
