Earlier this year, we were introduced to a new artist, who had risen to fame through the photo app, Instagram. Florida-native Emily Zeck released her latest single, “Two Cents (Ice Cream Song)” on June 21 to the world. The catchy, beachy electro-pop track is fun and totally ridiculous, but does display Emily Zeck‘s talent for quirky songwriting. We had a chance to talk with the up and coming singer-songwriter and took full advantage!
Lemonade Magazine: Hey Emily! Thank you for taking a minute to chat with us! Tell us a little bit about yourself and your music background.
Emily Zeck: Pretty much since I could walk and talk, music and the beach have been a part of my life. I learned a few chords on the guitar and it all snowballed from there. My music mirrors my lifestyle.
LM: Which is awesome and completely chill. You have a solid following on Instagram as @thatpineapplegirl. We have to ask, what is your obsession with the pineapple?
EZ: It’s just a great fruit all around! Pretty to look at and fun to eat. It’s like a little tropical escape.
LM: Couldn’t agree more! Okay, back to the music! You just released an awesomely quirky track, “Two Cents (Ice Cream Song)”. It is so catchy and is perfect for the summer playlists. How did the concept for the track come about?
EZ: It wasn’t really a long and thought out process. Someone got on my nerves about my music and told me to write about more inspirational topics, so I wrote about money and ice cream.
LM: Ha! That is brilliant. Sometimes those are the best types of songs. “Pacific Blue” is more of a beachy, acoustic track and “Two Cents” is a little bit of a departure from this style. What prompted this genre shift?
EZ: It happened naturally, I always go with the flow of my creativity.
LM: With the music video, there is a part where you are wearing empty soda cans as curlers. Actually, the video as a whole is pretty epic! Who came up with the idea?
EZ: The director Rock Jacobs came up with it. It was rad!
LM: With your new single out, what are your plans for the rest of 2017?
EZ: Music, music, music! Lots of energy flow over the next few months.
LM: We cannot wait for more!
