I always enjoy helping our fans keep up with the artists we’re happy to introduce them to. So, when Lemonade Magazine favorite, Olivia Millerschin, agreed to chat with us about her PledgeMusic campaign and to follow up since we last spoke with her in our Rising Stars issue, I couldn’t say no! See what our favorite funny Detroit-native had to say this time around:
Wyndi: First off, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with Lemonade again. We always enjoy hearing from you!
Olivia: I’m absolutely honored to chitchat with my favorite fruity beverage-based magazine!
Wyndi: And we’re always honored to chat with our favorite Olivia! Since we last chatted with you, you’ve started up a Pledge Music campaign. Tell us a bit about it.
Olivia: I launched the Pledge Music campaign to raise money for my brand new EP, “Over The Weather,” coming out in May. I went to record in L.A. with one of my favorite producers and now I’m attempting to raise money to pay him for the studio time and get really nice merchandise and physical CDs out!
Wyndi: Nice! I can’t wait to hear it! How will “Over The Weather” be different from “Yes. No. Maybe So.”?
Olivia: It’s pretty much the same indie, singer/songwriter style, but my writing has changed quite a bit in the past year. I still write in my quirky, awkward manner but my content has matured a little. But I still act like a 12 year old boy so we’re cool.
Wyndi: Hah! You and me both. By the way, congratulations on having your song “Screw Valentine’s Day” played throughout Kohl’s stores! What was that like for you? Were you able to hear your song while shopping?
Olivia: THAT WAS UNREAL. [It was] really kind of Kohl’s to choose to play it in their stores. It was a dreamlike experience for me. I’m really surprised at the extent of support and kindness I’ve received and to have that kind of opportunity was amazing.
Wyndi: Incredible talent gets incredible support! Speaking of, another congratulations is in order for your SIX! Detroit Music Award nominations! When do we get to find out the results?
Olivia: The ceremony is in the spring and I believe that’s when we find out! (Even if I don’t win anything, I’m going to pull a “Kanye” up there!)
Wyndi: Best of luck to you! Haha, I hope you don’t need to pull a “Kanye,” but if you do, please record that! Alright, I have to ask, because it’s one of my favorite questions, if you could go on tour with anyone, who would it be?
Olivia: Hm, there are so many outstanding artists out right now and if I had to choose I would say Mary Lambert, Orla Gartland, Nina Nesbitt, or Jason Mraz. Pretty much anyone with a lot of soul!
Wyndi: That would be pretty fantastic! Are there any places you’d love to visit while on tour?
Olivia: While on tour, I would love to visit some places with good food. That’s a must. Haha. I’ve always wanted to head over and tour Ireland and the UK so maybe that’ll happen! Who knows?!
Wyndi: Ah, a foodie! A girl after my own heart! So you’ve told us who you’d like to tour with, who are your musical influences?
Olivia: My musical influences very all the time but my biggest are Ingrid Michaelson, John Mayer, Carole King, Regina Spektor, Death Cab For Cutie. Haha. Kind of a strange mix!
Wyndi: Nothing wrong with an eclectic mix! Those are all great artists. Since we’re both apparently 12 year old boys, and because I couldn’t resist, your Twitter account says you’re a professional poopy joke teller. I have to ask, what is your best poopy joke?
Olivia: SO GLAD THAT SOMEONE APPRECIATES MY LAME HUMOR! My best poopy joke would probably be:
knock knock.
Who’s there?
Smellmop
Smellmop who?
I guess you kind of have to read it out loud for it to be funny… or maybe it’s not funny at all! Thank you so much again for taking the time to talk to me!
Wyndi: Haha! I definitely laughed, and I’m sure our readers will, too. Thank YOU for chatting with us! Good luck with both your campaign and Detroit Music Awards! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for you!
