2015 has come to an end and, as the boys have said, it was a big year for Lemonade as well. We revamped our website and started spamming you with endless articles on Facebook (all out of love, guys, all out of love). The boys have spoken and now it’s my turn. Here are my favorites of 2015.
Favorite Album: Imagine Dragons – Smoke + Mirrors
Since their Continued Silence EP, Imagine Dragons has had a special place in my heart. It’s difficult for me to find an album that I can listen to for weeks on end and not get tired of it and so far, Imagine Dragons is two for two. Their sophomore album, Smoke + Mirrors, is just as amazing as their debut album. Long live the dragons!
Favorite Song: Meghan Trainor & John Legend – Like I’m Gonna Lose You
Meghan Trainor has been making statements left and right in 2015 and her collaboration with John Legend, Like I’m Gonna Lose You, is no exception. This song has played a major part in my 2015 as a lot of relationships were challenged and new relationships were established. We’re not guaranteed forever so it’s important to not take their company and love for granted. It’s a lesson every human being should take to heart.
Favorite New Artist: Meg Myers
Meg Myers is a welcome throwback to the 90’s. Her music is angsty and honest. She’s a breath of fresh air in the monotonous world of pop music. Her debut album Sorry is the perfect blend of grunge and upbeat and lightheartedness. I can’t wait to see what is in store for this girl from the Smoky Mountains.
Favorite Male Artist: Ed Sheeran
Okay, so Ed Sheeran didn’t necessarily release anything in 2015 but boy did he have himself a year. He set off on a massive tour for his album X and his single, “Photograph” has been getting almost more airplay than anything Taylor Swift has put out. I’ve always fondly thought of Sheeran as the male, talented version of Taylor Swift and his career is backing my argument tenfold.
Favorite Female Artist: Meg Myers
I’m giving this one to Meg Myers as well. She’s a nice break from the pop divas like Adele or Taylor Swift. Her music exhibits raw emotion and doesn’t feel sugar coated or over produced. Numbers and record sales aren’t the only thing that should give an artist credit.
Favorite Band/Duo: X-Ambassadors
This was a tough one but I finally narrowed it down to Imagine Dragons or X-Ambassadors. Why did X-Ambassadors win? Because 2015 was an amazing year for them. They released their phenomenal debut album, they toured liked crazy, and are well on their way to becoming a household name.
Favorite Music Video: X-Ambassadors – Unsteady
X-Ambassadors have blown up since Vice President, Aaron Mannari, and I first heard them opening for Imagine Dragons two years ago. Their hard-hitting song “Unsteady” about lead singer, Sam Harris’s parents’ divorce was accompanied this year by an equally emotional music video detailing the parallels of young and old love. I’ll admit, I shed a tear watching this video because it is so well done and perfectly captures the emotions of this song.
Favorite Moment: Muse at Key Arena
For Christmas, Vice President, Aaron Mannari, got me tickets to go see Muse at Key Arena in Seattle. The show was amazing and an experience like nothing I’ve ever dreamed of. Muse has always been a favorite band of mine and the fact that I was finally able to see them live was a really special moment. It’s too bad Aaron and Brandon were unable to join me on this amazing jaunt to Seattle.
Here’s to a musically filled 2016!
