Part two of Smoke Season’s four-part short film series has arrived! “When The Smoke Clears” is the second single and video from the duo’s Ouroboros EP. It’s clear that Smoke Season is not taking their subject matters lightly. As you remember, part one centered on a young girl in high school stuck in a confusing love triangle. This time around, an incredibly important topic is covered.
The video for “When The Smoke Clears” picks up right where “Loose” left off. This time, following the young man involved in the love triangle. In part one, he seems like a popular boy whose life is going great. Part two sheds light on his home life and his brother – a vet with PTSD. The two men make a stop at a convenience store when the older brother starts having war flashbacks and has to cope with the consequences of his triggers. The topic is a hot one, especially with the current election going on. How is the government helping these vets that are clearly struggling with the events they’ve been through? Only time will tell. This video, like the last, deals with very heavy but incredibly real issues.
“When The Smoke Clears” is a soulful song that showcases Wortman’s vocal talents. Smoke Season is proving that they aren’t afraid to throw life’s realty in the face of anyone who will listen and good on them. These are topics that should be discussed openly and often.
