Over the last decade of interviewing musicians and the occasional actor or actress, I have been fortunate enough to interview some amazing people. Each individual interview is memorable, but there are certain ones that stand out, most of the time because their work has impacted me in some way.
I remember the first time I heard The Frights, I had turned their album You’re Are Going To Hate This on while I was carving a pumpkin for Halloween. I absolutely loved their sound and couldn’t wait for Hypochondriac when it was announced. Although their sound had changed a bit, I immediately connected with the songwriting. I have struggled with mental illness for the majority of my life and although what I deal with is probably very different from what Mikey Carnevale deals with, the way in which he writes about it and his social life was something I related to right away.
I was thrilled to be able to have Mikey on the show and he was honestly one of the nicest people I have ever interviewed. We played four songs from Hypochondriac and compared them to their LIVE counterparts from their brand new album The Frights Live At The Observatory and got a little bit of the story behind each song. I never expect anything or feel entitled to anything as an interviewer, but when an artist is as open and honest as Mikey was, it makes the interview that much better.
I want to thank Mikey and The Frights once again for being a part of the podcast and make sure to check out their brand new LIVE album after listening to the show!
