We’ve already gotten a taste of Smoke Season’s latest EP Ourboros with “Loose” and “When The Smoke Clears.” The smoky mysteriousness of the duo’s signature sound is right on par with their latest release. Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen create a mystical, magical world with their music. Her vocals soar over the swanky guitar and percussion. This EP is impeccable not only because of the musicality of it but because of what Smoke Season is doing along with it.
Ouroboros is both an impressive EP and a 4-part short film. The first two installments of the film have already been released and have dealt with some pretty heavy topics. With such amazing music backing each section, the final two pieces of the puzzle should be just as intense and real. “Loose,” as you’ll remember, focuses on a young girl stuck in a confusing love triangle and “When The Smoke Clears” centers on a war veteran struggling with PTSD. The idea of accidental intervention swirls throughout the film and builds intrigue for the coming portions.
Smoke Season is incredibly unique and wonderfully talented. The fact that they are managing to turn a 6 track EP into such a beautifully real look into life’s struggles is impressive to say the least. This duo has grown immensely since we last covered them on Hot Coals Cold Souls. Wortman and Rosen are forces to be reckoned with as they push themselves as artists and musicians.
