Some artists rely on a really good beat. Some bank on their powerhouse vocals, while all the others seem to rest on their knack for putting pretty words together. Once in a while an artist comes around who has all of that going for them…and then some.
Devon Baldwin‘s Facebook lists that a little over 8,000 people have “liked” her page. If I were a betting man, I would think about putting some money on that number taking off in the near future.
When an artist has the talent that Devon Baldwin does, I always hesitate to make comparisons to other artists. It just doesn’t seem quite fair, but to give you an idea, I will try my best to explain why Devon Baldwin has suddenly jumped onto my “favorites” list. Imagine someone with the flexibility of say, Skylar Grey, by that I mean she can bend into many shapes and genres; EDM, stripped down piano pop, hip-hop, etc. Now add controlled, yet powerful, vocals and lyrics that are actually worth listening to and with those ingredients you have the basis of what Devon Baldwin is, but there is so much more still.
The Lungs EP is an absolutely pleasant surprise featuring six superbly produced tracks, all of which are worth replaying over and over. Baldwin is at her best with tracks like, “Right Here” and “Knock You Down” featuring Skizzy Mars. This pair of songs provide a different flavor for the EP and gives us a preview of what she might do on a full-length album.
Overall, Lungs is a very strong EP. I sincerely hope Devon Baldwin releases more music very soon. I have this feeling there are more surprises to come.
