A few years ago I came across a cover of Kodaline‘s “All I Want” on Vine. The cover was by an artist named Leslie Laine, a Michigan teacher/musician who was working on the early stages of a band made up of herself and fellow Viners, Whitney Galaher, and Ashley Strongarm named Dear Ears. At the time I had interviewed Leslie for the website and kept up with the band ever since.
Here we are in 2019 and Dear Ears is still alive and well, but it has also inspired the solo career of the aforementioned Ashley Strongarm who recently released her debut song “I Don’t Feel Anything” ahead of her debut EP Four Ghosts due out later on this year.
As a huge fan of each member of Dear Ears, I was so excited to get Ashley on the show. As it is with many artists, I’m not sure Ashley realizes just how talented she is. From what we’ve heard so far, she is a wonderful songwriter and her voice is the perfect balance of modern and throwback. Despite all of this, Ashley is still extremely humble and even a bit shy when it comes to this new venture. It was great talking to her a bit about life, her music, and yes…even banjos and beards.
Check out Ashley Strongarm‘s episode below. This week also features tracks from Los Retros, Jade Jackson, and Jenna Lotti! Make sure to subscribe on Podcoin, Apple Podcasts, or Google Play and stay tuned for the next episode featuring Anna Dellaria!
