The last time we talked with Holly Henry, she was fresh off of being a finalist on NBC’s The Voice. We knew then that the quirky Minnesota native knew her way around a cover, but a few years later, we now know that she can write her own material thanks to her brand new release, The Orchard EP.
Recently, we had the chance to talk with Holly about that. Here is how it went.
Lemonade Magazine: Hey Holly! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us. How’s life been for you since the last time we talked?
Holly Henry: It has been a very productive couple of years and I’m excited to share everything I’ve written and created throughout this time period.
LM: Tell us a little about the making of your brand new EP, The Orchard.
HH: The Orchard EP was created at The Library Studio in Minneapolis and it was a wonderful recording experience. There was a lot of experimentation. It was all very in the moment and I had the opportunity to try new things on the EP that I had always wanted to.
LM: You’ve done a ton of covers on your YouTube channel. Was it intimidating releasing your own work to the world?
HH: I had released my original material many times previously, so it didn’t really cross my mind to be intimidated. People are always asking for original music on my YouTube channel so I was excited to give it to them.
LM: You have such an awesome fan base. What has the reaction to the EP been like so far?
HH: People love The Orchard from what I’ve heard. They are always very supportive of my original music but I haven’t had such a positive response to a release thus far.
LM: What’s on the schedule now? Music videos? A tour to support the EP?
HH: We are releasing a music video in the near future and I am very excited about it. My full length album is completely written so I expect to record that soon and hopefully release it next year.
LM: I mentioned the fact you do a lot of covers on your YouTube, are there any new ones you are enjoying playing right now?
HH: My favorite songs to cover are Lana Del Rey songs. I could cover all of her songs but I think my subscribers would be irritated. Oh, well!
LM: Thank you again, Holly! We greatly appreciate you taking the time to chat with us!
Holly Henry‘s new EP, The Orchard, is now available on iTunes.
